A Rapid, Well Coordinated and Community Focused Upgrade Delivered by Fry Site Services
Fry Site Services, part of the Fry Group, has recently completed a rapid pathway improvement project at a local community facility in Kent. The centre contacted us after the existing path began to fail, creating uneven patches and localised settlement that presented a clear health and safety concern for staff and visitors. The team mobilised quickly and delivered a clean, durable and long lasting replacement surface that restored confidence for everyone using the site. The work was completed safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to the daily operation of the community centre.
Professional Site Mobilisation and Protection of the Public
As soon as the request was received, the team responded at pace while maintaining the high standards expected on larger groundworks programmes. A tidy and well presented site setup was established, with clear segregation to ensure that all staff and visitors could move around the area safely. Good housekeeping is always important, but it becomes essential in community settings where users often pass close to active work areas. Throughout the project, the team kept the site clean, signed correctly and presented to a professional standard at all times.
Coordination with other Fry Group companies began immediately to keep the programme moving smoothly. Recmat supported the project with prompt waste away collections and material supply for the reinstatement stages. Their efficient logistics ensured that uplifted material was removed without delay, preventing clutter or obstruction around the site. Details of Recmat can be found at RecMat.
Working alongside them, Fry MM provided reliable transport for bulk materials and the movement of excavation arisings. Their consistent support meant that the team always had the required materials on site at the right time, enabling a continuous flow from excavation through to reinstatement. Information on Fry MM is at Fry MM.
Excavation of the Failed Surface
With the area secure, the team began to excavate the deteriorated pathway. The existing surface had become uneven and unstable, so all loose and unsuitable material was removed until a firm formation was reached. The excavation was shaped neatly to allow the new sub base to be reinstated evenly across the full width of the path.
Excavation arisings were taken off site as they were produced. Recmat and Fry MM ensured there was no build up of waste or materials, which kept the working area clean and allowed the team to progress directly to the reinstatement phases.
Installation of a New Sub Base
Once the failed material had been removed, a new sub base was delivered and placed carefully. Proper compaction was essential to provide a solid platform for the new tarmac finish, so the team worked methodically to build the sub base to the correct depth. Levels were checked and adjusted throughout to create a stable and even foundation.
Although the sub base is not visible once the surface is complete, it is the element that determines long term performance. The team ensured that this stage was carried out to a high standard, reflecting the quality expected from a professional groundworks contractor.
Laying the New Tarmac Surface
With the sub base approved, the team proceeded to lay a new six millimetre tarmac surface. This type of finish is ideal for high footfall community areas as it provides a smooth, durable and visually smart result. The tarmac was applied evenly, compacted properly and shaped carefully to match the existing edges and surrounding ground.
During this phase, Fry MEP provided technical support regarding buried utilities and service protection. Their guidance ensured that no underground electrical or water infrastructure was affected during excavation or reinstatement. Further details of Fry MEP are available at Fry MEP.
Clean and Safe Handover
Once the tarmac had been laid and compacted, the entire area was swept, checked and prepared for immediate use. The improvement was noticeable straight away. The new surface provided a cleaner, safer and more dependable route for staff, visitors and members of the public using the facility.
The project was completed quickly, safely and without inconvenience to the community centre. The team demonstrated excellent housekeeping throughout and delivered a high quality result that reflects the care and professionalism associated with Fry Site Services.
A Strong Example of Community Improvement Delivered Well
Community centred projects like this are always rewarding to complete, whether they involve major infrastructure upgrades or small but important improvements such as pathway reinstatement. The same principles always apply: clear communication, good planning, skilled workmanship and a commitment to tidy, respectful delivery.
With coordinated support from Recmat, Fry MM and Fry MEP, the pathway upgrade progressed smoothly from start to finish. The final result is a clean, long lasting and safe route that removes a health and safety risk and provides confidence for all who use it.
Well done to the team for delivering another high quality groundworks project in the South East.
